LDV Maxus MIFA 9 – Electric Car Reviews

Overview – LDV Maxus MIFA 9

The LDV Maxus Mifa 9 is the newest all-electric luxury MPV from the Maxus brand. It is reminiscent of Japanese luxury MPVs such as the Nissan Elgrand and Toyota Alphard, but features a cutting-edge electric powertrain. It is 5.3 metres long, two metres wide and offers a seven-seat interior. The top-spec Premium model tested comes with a 12.3-inch central touchscreen display and a seven-inch configurable driver’s display.

Maxus Mifa 9 is a passenger style van

With its stylish Storm Trooper-esque nose and a minimalist, opulent interior, the Mifa 9 offers a range of impressive features, such as 18-inch alloy wheels, a 12.3-inch infotainment system, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring. However, its high price tag of over $100,000 before on-road costs is outside the realm of most family buyers and twice as expensive as a top-spec Kia Carnival.

Maxus MIFA 9 – Energy And Carbon Efficiency

The Maxus Mifa 9 carbon emissions figures are 127 gCO2/mi (79 gCO2/km). This is higher than the emissions figures of most other electric vehicles on the market, such as the Mercedes EQA 300 4MATIC (94 gCO2/mi) and the BMW iX1 xDrive30 (95 gCO2/mi). However, it is lower than the emissions of other luxury electric vehicles like the Jaguar I-PACE EV400 (111 gCO2/mi) and the Lexus RZ 450e (127 gCO2/mi). Although the Maxus Mifa 9’s emissions figures are higher than most vehicles, it’s also a van-style transport meaning that it carries more people for a given amount of emissions. This offsets the higher emission rate.

EV Engine, Power and Performance

The Mifa 9 features a 90kWh battery and a 245bhp electric motor that sends power to the front wheels, offering 350Nm of torque. It has a maximum range of 273 miles in entry-level trim and 267 miles in Premium trim. It also has a top speed of 112mph.

It charges from 30-80% in 36 minutes via DC fast charging. The Mifa 9 also has a 2535 kg weight, which reduces its payload to 525 kg. Acceleration is swift and the cabin is quiet and refined, with a chassis set-up that favours comfort and compliance over control.

Interior Comfort and Cargo Dimensions

The interior of the Mifa 9 is well built, with solid-feeling plastics and leather trim. The Premium model features two plush captain’s chairs that are electrically adjustable in every direction, as well as a smartphone-style touchscreen on the outer armrest for controlling seat height, lumbar position, massage function, heating and cooling, and reclining the chairs all the way back. It also has an aircraft-style tray table that folds out of the opposite armrest, and multiple charging ports throughout the cabin.

The Mifa 9 offers plenty of passenger room and luggage space, with a 2-2-3 seating configuration and 466 L of luggage space with all three rows in use. The second row is arguably the most desirable, with deeply cushioned and comfortable seats and an airy ambience thanks to the large sunroof and low window sills. The third row is less spacious but the backrest reclines and the seat is on rails, allowing for variable passenger room.

Infotainment, Tech and Connectivity

The Maxus Mifa 9 is equipped with keyless entry, twin electric sunroofs, a heated leather steering wheel, heated, cooled and massaging front seats with electric adjustment, LED cabin lighting and a digital rear-view mirror. It also has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a 360-degree parking camera system with bird’s eye views and adaptive LED headlights.

The Mifa 9 features a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, a high resolution 12.3-inch infotainment system, wired Apple CarPlay, and a wireless charging pad. However, there are some missing features such as a head-up display, and no native sat-nav system.

Safety Features – LDV Maxus MIFA 9

The Maxus Mifa 9 comes with key safety features including adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane change assist, autonomous emergency braking, eight airbags, auto emergency braking, blind-spot alert, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Warranty Information

The Mifa 9 is covered by a five-year/200,000 km warranty, with its battery covered for eight years or 200,000 km. Service intervals are every two years or 30,000 km and each visit to the dealer will cost around $220-$520. Five years of free roadside assistance is also included.

Final Thoughts

The Maxus Mifa 9 is an impressive electric MPV, although shelling out over £75k for the top-spec Premium model might be a step too far for some. It could make more sense in lower-spec trims, such as the mid-range Luxury model, which is around £7,000 less, or the £12,000 cheaper Elite model, which may be ideal for private hire firms.

The Mifa 9 offers plenty of space and luxury, its electric powertrain is swift and silent and the fresh cabin design and opulent mix of materials are impressively premium. Even better news is that it’s also decent to drive, providing you stay within the scope of its use case as a people mover. However, its high price puts it out of reach of most private buyers and makes it a better option for businesses taking advantage of tax incentives.
