Kia Soul 39.2 kWh – Review

Overview – Kia Soul

Kia has been in the electric car business since 2011, when it released its first electric car, the Kia Soul EV. Kia has continued to expand its electric vehicle lineup over the years, introducing several hybrid and plug-in hybrid models in addition to the Soul EV.

Kia Soul EV

In 2020, Kia launched the all-electric Niro EV, as well as the all-electric Kia e-Niro SUV. Kia is also planning to launch several more electric models over the next few years, including an all-electric version of its popular Sedona minivan. In addition, Kia has invested heavily in the development of autonomous driving technology, with its first self-driving cars expected to debut in 2021.

The Kia Soul EV is an all-electric version of the popular SUV, offering emissions-free driving, a peppy 201-hp electric motor, and a large battery pack with up to 243 miles of range on a full charge. Though initially planned to debut for the 2020 model year, the Soul EV was delayed until 2021, and ultimately canceled for U.S. sale.

EV Engine And Performance

The Soul EV has a 201-hp electric motor connected to the front wheels via a single-speed direct-drive transmission, which was first seen in Kia’s Niro EV. The motor has shown to be quite peppy, with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 7.6 seconds.

Interior Dimensions And Features

The Soul EV’s cabin is spacious for four adults, and includes a variety of luxury and tech features. Cargo space is similar to the gasoline-powered Soul, with seven carry-on suitcases behind the rear seat and a total of 50 cases with the seats folded.

Infotainment And Tech

The Soul EV would have come with a 10.3-inch display with navigation as standard, and a six-speaker stereo system. An optional Harman/Kardon premium setup would have been offered as an upgrade.

Warranty

Kia’s 10-year/100,000-mile warranty is one of the longest and most comprehensive in the industry, covering the limited warranty for 5 years or 60,000 miles, powertrain warranty for 10 years or 100,000 miles, and battery warranty for 10 years or 100,000 miles. No complimentary scheduled maintenance is offered.
